"Polar Vortex Survival Guide: Skincare Edition": A Guest Post By Pass The Rouge

If your skin is really starting to show the effects of this harsh winter, then you'll definitely want to check out these winter skincare product recommendations by Pass the Rouge! I'd like to thank Michelle & Valerie for sharing these great tips and encourage you to check out their blog http://passtherouge.com/!

We don't know about you but NYC is under this awful polar vortex that has really taken a toll on our skin!  If you are familiar with our blog, then you know we are obsessed with skincare, and we have tested and reviewed countless skincare products.  It is extremely important to hydrate and moisturize your dry skin especially during this time of year. So we compiled a list of our favorite products and created our "Polar Vortex Survival Guide: Skincare Edition".  So without further ado, here's our list:

Embryolisse Lait Cream- We have mentioned this face lotion countless times on our blog, and for good reason- this cream is on the heavier side but blends nicely into your skin.  It doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy or sticky.

Sibu under eye cream- I don't know about you all, but we both struggle with dry undereye areas.  Together we have tried high end and low end eye creams and we're never really "WOWED" by any of them.  Recently we both began using Sibu's eye cream and finally found a product that locks in moisture.  Best of all this product is paraben free, and all natural!

Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream-  This product has the consistency of super thick Vaseline but the difference is it absorbs into your skin in a matter of seconds! The product explains itself as a concentrated glycerin formula enriched with Vitamin E, Vitamin B2, and Camphor. You can use this cream on any body part that may need some extra moisture; I love using it on my lips and cuticles.

Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Crème: There’s nothing worse than a harsh winter causing dry, cracked feet. This product is super moisturizing and really penetrates deep into your skin.  Right before bed, I slather some on and put on a pair of my comfiest socks, by the morning my feet are super soft.
So there you have it, our  "Polar Vortex Survival Guide: Skincare Edition." We would love to hear some of your winter skincare must haves!  You can find us on twitter @passtherouge and on Instagram at Passtherouge.

Stay Warm, and moisturize!

Xo,
Michelle & Valerie

Trying To Fade Dark Spots? Here Are 10 Home Remedies To Try!

1. Apply lemon juice daily. Lemons are well known for their ability to lighten your skin. Make sure you use fresh lemon juice that is free of preservatives.

2. Make a face mask out of lime juice and plain organic yogurt. Leave on for 30 minutes before rinsing off. Lime juice will help fade dark spots and the yogurt will help to exfoliate and smooth skin and is also anti-bacterial and anti-fungal .

3. Apply castor oil. Castor oil can help even skin tone and has strong healing properties.

4. Apply vitamin E oil. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that can help to fade scars and discolorations. For best results use a natural form of the oil like the one below.

5. Rub a cold tomato on the dark spots. Tomatoes contain the powerful antioxidant lycopene.

6. Apply an onion and garlic juice mixture to your face. Leave on for about fifteen minutes and then wash off thoroughly. I've heard this can work but I must confess that personally I refuse to apply garlic to my skin because the smell drives me crazy!

7. Apply a milk and honey mixture. The milk acid can help to lighten dark spots and the antibacterial properties of honey can also help to prevent breakouts.

8. Apply hydrogen peroxide directly to the dark spots. It bleaches the top layer of skin.

9. Try aloe vera. This plant is well known for its skin healing properties.

10. Make a paste out of mashed strawberries and apricots. Apply and leave on skin for 15 minutes before washing off.

Hope you found these suggestions helpful!

4 Reasons Baking Soda Makes A Great Exfoliant!

You've likely heard of the benefits of exfoliating your skin on a regular basis. Exfoliation helps prevent breakouts and keeps your skin looking young, bright, and smooth. Although there are hundreds of exfoliating products in the market, your best option may actually be right in your kitchen! The same baking soda that you use for cooking may also be your key to better skin. Simply mix it with a little water or your facial cleanser and you have a great exfoliating paste ready to go. Here are four great reasons you should consider exfoliating with baking soda!

1. The fine yet hard texture of baking soda makes it great for exfoliation because it is able to effectively remove dead skin cells without causing too much irritation.

2. Baking soda has neutralizing properties that may reduce the redness of the skin. For those with acne problems, this can make breakouts less noticeable.

3. Baking soda is cheap! You can buy a box for only a dollar or two and chances are it will last you a really long time. If you are on a beauty budget that leaves you more money to spend on other products (Prada Candy anyone?:))

4. It's convenient. Most people already have a box of baking soda already in their home. No need to buy a separate product.
